Summary: Objective: To verify the factors associated with the implementation of educational activities on oral health during prenatal care in the Metropolitan Region of Greater Vitoria, Espirito Santo. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2010, utilizing a sample of 1,035 puerperae who were interviewed during the postpartum period in public midwifery practices or associated with the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS); or the “National Health System (SUS).” Initially, a descriptive analysis was conducted. Subsequently, a Chi-square test was utilized to test the correlation between “the puerpera who received educational activities through meetings and/or gestational groups at the clinic and/or through home visits” and proximal, intermediate, and distal variables. A Binomial Logistic Regression was utilized to verify the intervenient factors in the implementation of educational activities by the puerpera, considering a significance level of 5%, for the maintenance of the independent variables on the final model. Results: The most widely received information by the pregnant women during prenatal care was: “the advantages of exclusive breast feeding until the age of six months” (52%) and “the importance of a healthy diet for the child” (51.4%) and the least received was “the importance of fluoride use on health” (18.9%). In the Binomial Logistic Regression, only the number of prenatal appointments and the modality of health services coverage remained in the final model (p<0.05). Conclusion: The organization of the services, as in the increased frequency of patient-provider interaction during prenatal visits and the quality of attention given to patients, as described by the Family Healthy Strategy, are more important factors in terms of receiving educational activities than personal characteristics and socioeconomic status in the SUS puerperas.
